Authentic DC Soul Food for Carry Out & Delivery

Jak & Co started in the early 1970’s when William Jackson— self-proclaimed “jack of all trades, master of none” purchased the neighborhood hair salon from his employer. The purchase of Jak&Co hair salon made William Jackson one of the first black business owners in Washington D.C. Backed by a thriving business and brimming with ambition, William opened a second affectionately named “The Other Salon”, making him the first black business owner in Chinatown.
William’s grandson, Chef Rajon Jackson, a lifelong DC resident, recalls his Grandfather telling him, “owning a business is something no one can take away from you “. From that moment, Chef Jackson knew he too wanted to emulate his hero and start a business of his own.
Chef Jackson started cooking at the age of 8, and attributes his early knowledge to the weekly family gatherings at his Grandparents’ house. It was there that he learned how to cook soul food and mouthwatering comfort classics. After spending decades honing his craft throughout restaurants in the District, Chef Jackson has decided to revive the name Jak&Co for his first independent concept.
With Jak&Co he hopes to share his own passion for food with a throwback to his culinary roots, and a focus on local product and flavors. Now a married, father of four and an advocate for the D.C. black community; Chef Rajon spends his time lifting the community youth by talking to them directly and encouraging them to follow their dreams be it in the kitchen, as a business owner, or beyond.
